Egypt Surpasses 1.35 Million Tourists Milestone in April 2023

Egypt’s tourism industry is bouncing back from the COVID-19 pandemic, as the country recorded its highest number of visitors ever in April 2023. Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Ahmed Issa announced on Monday, June 5, that Egypt welcomed 1.35 million tourists in April, surpassing the previous record of 1.2 million in 2010.

Issa said Egypt expects to receive 15 million tourists in 2023, exceeding the 2010 record of 14.7 million. He added that Egypt has a long-term vision to boost its tourism sector by 25-30 percent yearly, aiming to attract 30 million tourists annually by 2028.

I received a message. Egypt is taking several steps to attract tourists to its historical and cultural sites. In March 2023, Egypt introduced a new five-year, multiple-entry visa for 180 countries, costing USD 700 (EGP 21,000). The key can be obtained on arrival at Egypt’s airports for tourists with valid passports from the UK, the US, the Schengen area, Japan, or New Zealand. Tourists from China, India, and Turkey can also get a visa on arrival at any Egyptian port.

Egypt also announced that it would no longer accept cash payments at tourist attractions such as the Pyramids of Giza, the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, the Citadel of Salah Al-Din, the Nubia Museum, and the Unfinished Obelisk in Aswan. The ministry said this is part of its “comprehensive digital transformation strategy,” implemented in Aswan’s temples for four months.
