Hurghada Airport hits record high: 53K travellers in one day

Hurghada International Airport has just set a new milestone.
On 25 October 2025, the Red Sea hub recorded its busiest day of the year, underlining Hurghadaโ€™s position as one of Egyptโ€™s most in-demand tourist destinations.

According to official data, the airport handled 53,169 passengers in a single day, up from 43,869 passengers on the same date in 2024 โ€” a 21.2% increase year-on-year. At the same time, flight movements rose from 289 to 335, a growth rate of 16%.

1. A strong start to the winter tourism season

The record day comes just as European travellers begin flocking to the sun for winter. Hurghada, with its warm climate, direct flight connections and competitive pricing, remains one of the top choices for holidaymakers looking to escape colder weather.

Egyptโ€™s Ministry of Civil Aviation has repeatedly highlighted tourism and aviation as key pillars of economic growth, supporting more routes, higher flight frequencies and additional charter operations into Red Sea airports such as Hurghada and Sharm El-Sheikh.

2. Ongoing investment in airport capacity

Hurghada International Airport has undergone major development over the past decade, including a modern terminal complex designed to handle millions of passengers annually and improve the overall travel experience.

The government is also working on further upgrades, including eco-friendly infrastructure and expanded facilities to support rising demand, ensuring the airport can accommodate higher traffic levels in coming years.

What This Means for Hurghadaโ€™s Tourism & Real Estate Market

For the wider Hurghada region, this traffic spike is more than just an aviation statistic โ€” it is a demand signal:

  • Hotels & resorts: More arrivals typically translate into higher occupancy rates, especially in peak winter months, improving revenue for hospitality operators along the Red Sea coast.
  • Holiday rentals & second homes: Consistently rising visitor numbers support the case for investing in short-term rental properties, from studios to sea-view apartments.
  • Local businesses: Restaurants, excursion companies, diving centres and retail operators all benefit from increased tourist flows through the airport.
  • Long-term investors: The ability of Hurghada to set new traffic records reinforces its resilience and attractiveness as a long-term tourism and property market.

For travellers, the record day also suggests more route options, more frequent flights and potentially better availability from key European markets as airlines respond to demand.

Inside Hurghada International Airport: A Modern Gateway

Hurghada International Airport today is a far cry from the small regional facility it once was. Recent years have seen:

  • A modern terminal complex with expanded check-in, security and boarding capacity
  • Upgraded baggage systems and passenger facilities designed to reduce congestion
  • Improved layout and design to handle millions of passengers per year more efficiently

These upgrades help the airport cope with sharp peaks in demand โ€” such as the record traffic day in October โ€” while maintaining service quality and safety standards.
