Red Sea to sink 16 military equipment to launch 1st underwater military museum.
A coordination meeting was convened on Monday by Major General Mohamed El Bandary, the Secretary General of the Red Sea Governorate, on behalf of the Red Sea Governor, Major General Amr Hanafi.The meeting announced the establishment of the first underwater military museum in the waters of the Red Sea Governorate, which is also the first of its kind in Egypt and Africa. The museum will showcase three alternative diving sites in Hurghada, created with the cooperation of the Ministry of Environment, Red Sea Reserves, and civil society.
The statement from the Red Sea Governorate revealed that the project was planned and prepared for years to conserve the natural coral reefs in the Red Sea. The project involved sinking 15 pieces of military equipment, each with a unique story and significance, in three locations: Shaab al-Saqala, Uruq al-Tawil, and Arg Jama’ in Magawish; these locations will offer new diving experiences for visitors, who can witness the rich military history of Egypt.

The museum’s inauguration ceremony will occur next Thursday at Hurghada’s tourist marina. The ceremony will be attended by Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, and several Arab environment ministers from Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Djibouti, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. Moreover, some scholars and diving enthusiasts in the Red Sea will join the event.
