Under the Sea: The Best Diving Spots in Hurghada for Summer 2024

As the summer of 2024 approaches, the Red Sea’s gem, Hurghada, is gearing up to welcome divers into its underwater embrace. Known for its crystal-clear waters and vibrant marine life, Hurghada is a diver’s sanctuary offering many dive sites that cater to all experience levels. Here’s a glimpse into the best diving spots in Hurghada that should be on every diver’s bucket list this summer.

Hurghada

1. Marsa Abu Galawa (Carless Reef) A magical reef between the enchanting islands of Giftun and Shaab Umm Qamar, Marsa Abu Galawa, is a site with two pinnacles 12 meters deep. Divers can expect to encounter white-tip reef sharks, massive moray eels, and a variety of fish in a lagoon that boasts rare species.

2. Fanadir (El Fanadeer) One of the most extensive coral reefs in Hurghada, Fanadir offers a protected marine area home to diverse marine life since 2006. The site is perfect for shallow and deep dives, with the possibility of swimming alongside the friendly dolphins that frequent these waters.

3. El Fanus (Dolphin Reef): This shallow submerged reef system is famous for its bottlenose dolphins, sea turtles, scorpionfish, morays, and delightful turtles. The calm and relaxing environment makes El Fanus ideal for novice and experienced divers.

4. El Gifton: Just a 45-minute boat ride from Hurghada, El Gifton is a secluded diving site that holds 80% of the biodiversity of the Red Sea’s coral reefs. Since becoming popular in 1986, it has attracted divers looking to explore its beauty.

5. Turtle Bay Located off the northern end of Giftun Island, Turtle Bay is a horseshoe reef with a shallow swim-through bowel reef teeming with fish and coral. The bay’s impressive underwater life is not the only attraction; it also offers golf courses and various excursions on land.

6. Oberoi House Reef: This incredible spot is home to octopuses, lionfish, turtles, eagle rays, and more. Divers can enjoy the natural tropical sites and majestic sea creatures that call this reef home.

7. El Aruk North of Gota Abu Ramada, El Aruk is divided into three locations, with Aruk Giftun in the northeast being the standout site. It’s a diver’s paradise with abundant marine life waiting to be discovered.

8. Gota Abu Ramada, a.k.a “The Aquarium” Known as “The Aquarium,” this site is not far from Hurghada and is renowned for its abundance of hard and soft corals, butterflyfish, bannerfish, snappers, goatfish, and more. It’s a perfect spot for relaxing and enjoying the underwater spectacle.
