Tell the insurer how the apartment will be used
Prepare a brief with the property location, building type, ownership details, intended use and expected periods away. Explain whether you, relatives or paying guests will occupy it, and whether its use may change later. Ask the insurer or appropriately authorised adviser what further information is needed and how those details affect the quotation.
Include the current stage of the property. A completed furnished apartment, an unfurnished home and a home still undergoing work may require different questions. Do not assume an ordinary home quotation addresses construction, renovations or commercial activity.
When comparing Hurghada property projects, collect the building and unit details needed for enquiries. If a salesperson says insurance is included, request the actual documents, the policyholder's identity and written clarification of what protection, if any, extends to you. This guide is a preparation checklist, not a recommendation of a policy.
Distinguish a product page from your contract
Official product information is a useful starting point. For example, AXA Egypt's home-insurance marketing page describes a home offering. That page does not establish eligibility, current availability or cover for your particular Hurghada apartment; ask the insurer for confirmation and the applicable documents.
Request the quotation, policy wording, schedule, exclusions and any special conditions together. Ask which document controls if wording appears inconsistent and obtain an explanation in a language you understand. Read the documents before making the insurance part of your ownership budget.
Record the proposed start and end dates, insured person or entity, address, currency and payment arrangements. Ask when cover would actually begin and what evidence confirms it. Keep the insurer's direct contact details so future questions do not depend entirely on the person who introduced the product.

Map the building, apartment and belongings separately
Ask the building manager for any relevant existing insurance information, then have your adviser explain its relationship with the cover you are considering. Avoid assuming that a development's policy includes your furniture, alterations or personal responsibilities.
| Area | Ask specifically | Request in writing |
|---|---|---|
| Building and shared areas | Who insures them and what does that include? | Relevant scope and policyholder details |
| Apartment fixtures | How are your installed improvements treated? | Definitions and applicable limits |
| Contents | Which belongings qualify and how are they valued? | Valuation basis and item limits |
| Responsibility to others | Is any relevant liability cover available? | Insured situations and exclusions |
| Temporary loss of use | Is any assistance available after an insured event? | Trigger, duration and financial limits |
These are areas to investigate, not a list of benefits automatically provided by an Egyptian home policy.
Ask directly about absences and conditions
Tell the insurer the longest period you expect the apartment to be empty and ask how the proposed wording defines occupied and unoccupied. Request a clear explanation of any relevant time limits, restrictions or notification requirements. Do not apply an absence rule remembered from a policy in another country.
Ask whether inspections, security arrangements, maintenance or specific precautions are required, and what records would demonstrate compliance. Put those requirements to the person looking after the home before accepting an arrangement that may be impractical.
Discuss the practical support described through our property services, but obtain confirmation of the actual tasks and reporting available. A care provider cannot determine insurance cover. Ask the insurer how to report changed use, extended absence, substantial work or changes to the property's condition, and retain its written response.
Tell us the development and your intended use. We can help assemble the property details to discuss directly with an insurer or authorised adviser.
Compare valuations, exclusions and amounts you pay
Ask how the required insured values should be calculated for the apartment and contents. Clarify whether purchase price is relevant or a different valuation basis is needed, and whether a professional assessment would help. Ask what happens if the declared amount is too low and when values should be reviewed.
Compare quotes using the same property details and proposed values. For each, note the premium, currency, any excess or deductible, financial limits, exclusions and conditions. Ask for practical explanations of ambiguous wording using situations relevant to your apartment, such as damage first discovered after a period away.
Create a dated contents inventory with photographs, receipts where available and identifying details for valuable items. Ask which evidence the insurer requires and whether particular belongings need separate declaration. A lower premium only becomes meaningful once you understand the differences in the proposed protection and your own remaining costs.
Know the reporting process before you need it
Ask how an incident should be reported, what deadlines apply and what information is needed. Clarify the procedure for urgent action, assessment and repairs, including what must be authorised first. Record who can communicate with the insurer if you are abroad and how that authority is established.
Keep the final documents, proof of payment, inventory and claims contacts in a secure place you can access remotely. Set a renewal reminder and review changes to the property or its use before renewal. Have unresolved wording explained by the insurer or an appropriately qualified adviser.
Share your preferred development, expected personal-use dates and likely absences through our contact page. We can help organise property information for your enquiries; policy suitability and coverage decisions belong with the insurer and your adviser.
