Living in Sahl Hasheesh:Check Your Home at Child Height

Living in Sahl Hasheesh with a baby or toddler brings a different set of questions to a property viewing. A generous terrace is appealing, but so is a place to park the stroller without blocking a doorway. A bright bedroom matters, alongside where the cot will stand and how quietly an adult can move around it. Looking at an apartment from a young child’s level helps you picture the next stage of family life. Use this guide to build a practical viewing brief before choosing a home for holidays or longer stays.

The practical answer

Inspect the home around sleep, supervision and movement. Map a suitable baby sleep space, identify hazards a toddler could reach, follow the route to shared pools and test the stroller journey. Record which changes require permission or a qualified installer, then resolve them before your family uses the property.

01 · Sleep space

Give the cot a real place on the plan

Measure the room using the actual cot or travel-cot dimensions you intend to use. Allow room for an adult to approach it and move to the door. Consider where a second adult can read or prepare for bed without crossing the sleeping area. A separate room can be useful, but the layout and your family’s current routine matter more than a bedroom count alone.

Follow the CPSC’s safe-sleep guidance: use an appropriate infant sleep product, place a baby on their back and keep the sleep space clear of pillows, loose blankets and other soft items. Check the product’s instructions and recalls when buying or borrowing equipment.

02 · Child height

Look at what a toddler can reach or climb

Crouch down and trace a route from the bedroom to the living area. Look at low drawers, open shelves, cleaning-product storage and furniture near windows. Photograph issues for discussion with the seller; do not assume the show apartment’s arrangement is the one your family must keep. Ask whether blinds or furniture are included so you know what needs replacing or securing.

The CPSC childproofing guide highlights cordless window coverings, furniture anchoring, secure storage and window protection. Window screens do not prevent a child falling. Have suitable protection assessed and installed properly, with emergency escape requirements considered. The property viewing identifies questions; it cannot certify a home as childproof.

03 · Water access

Understand the boundary between home and pool

A terrace beside the water may look wonderfully convenient. With a mobile toddler, inspect exactly how access is controlled from the living room, terrace and shared route. Identify who controls each door or gate and whether the arrangement changes when cleaners, visitors or older children enter. Ask permission before making any alteration to shared boundaries.

Pool safety requires active adult supervision and suitable protective measures; barriers do not replace supervision. Choose an apartment whose layout lets your household manage transitions clearly. During the viewing, decide where an adult stands while unlocking the front door, retrieving towels or speaking to a neighbour. These ordinary moments deserve attention alongside the holiday photographs.

04 · Moving together

Bring the stroller, or bring its measurements

Test the route from the permitted drop-off point to the apartment with the stroller you actually use. Look at door widths, lift space, thresholds and the effort needed to open a door while holding bags. Inside, identify a parking place that leaves the exit route clear and still lets another adult move comfortably.

The Sahl Hasheesh arrival and access guide adds questions about vehicles and entry procedures. Walk the family route in both directions. A return with a sleeping child may reveal a practical preference that was invisible on a floor plan, such as a simpler entrance or a more useful hallway.

05 · Everyday care

Rehearse meals, laundry and the evening reset

Picture the apartment at the busiest hour of your day: one adult preparing a meal, another helping a child and wet clothes waiting to be dealt with. Check usable worktop space, a highchair position, washing-machine provision and somewhere to dry laundry without obstructing movement. Keep household products and medicines in suitable secure storage.

For longer stays, use our family area comparison to widen the conversation beyond the apartment, then verify your own routes and current services. Do not choose a home solely around today’s cot. Think about where a toddler will play and where family belongings will live as visits become longer.

06 · Your shortlist

Separate easy adjustments from layout limits

Make two lists after the viewing. The first contains changes you can realistically arrange, such as suitable window coverings or agreed furniture anchoring. The second contains features you cannot easily change, including access steps, room proportions or an exposed route to shared water. Obtain permission and quotes for proposed work before counting it as resolved.

Before you buy

Your questions, answered

Is a ground-floor home always best with a toddler?

It may simplify stroller access, but examine doors, terraces and any route to shared water. Compare the whole layout and supervision arrangements rather than choosing by floor level alone.

Does a furnished apartment mean baby equipment is suitable?

No. Identify the exact equipment, inspect its condition and follow the manufacturer’s instructions and applicable safety guidance. Check recalls and arrange suitable replacements when necessary.

Can the viewing establish that an apartment is child-safe?

A viewing helps identify questions and possible changes. It does not replace professional assessment, correct installation of protective measures or active adult supervision when children use the home.
