Count what needs a permanent place
Make a short inventory based on your intended stay: clothing, footwear, luggage, spare towels, bedding, cleaning supplies and any hobby equipment. Distinguish items you use daily from things you would unpack once. A large cupboard is less helpful when reaching your shoes means moving two suitcases every morning.
For seasonal use, decide what will remain between visits and what will travel with you. Measure bulky items rather than estimating from memory. Include the space needed to lift them into position. This turns storage from an abstract wish into a set of dimensions that the viewing agent can help you compare across suitable apartments.
Check cupboards with the doors open
Look inside fitted cupboards and ask what is included in the sale or finishing specification. Measure depth, shelf height and clear opening width. A wardrobe may have generous external dimensions while its usable space is interrupted by internal fittings. Check whether adding furniture would block a socket, window or convenient route through the room.
On the floor plan, draw furniture at realistic dimensions and leave room to use it. Open doors and drawers during the viewing if permitted. Our apartment floor plan guide is a useful companion for comparing storage capacity with circulation: the aim is to put belongings away while keeping the home easy to move through.
Trace washing, drying and putting away
Identify the proposed washing machine position, then confirm its dimensions and the available connections with a qualified installer. Allow for the appliance door, hoses and access for maintenance. Do not assume that an empty recess is ready for any machine simply because it appears wide enough in a photograph.
Next, carry an imaginary basket from the bedroom to the machine, then to the drying area and back to the wardrobe. Where would wet items wait? Where would you fold bedding? A workable routine needs more than appliance space. It needs somewhere for each temporary stage without taking over the dining table or blocking the balcony door.
| Everyday item | Viewing check | Useful evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Suitcases | Fit through cupboard openings | Internal measurements |
| Washing machine | Fit, connections and service access | Installer confirmation |
| Drying rack | Open fully without blocking a route | Measured floor position |
| Spare linen | Store when guests are staying | Dedicated shelf space |
Agree how drying will actually work
Ask management whether drying clothes on the balcony is permitted and whether particular positions or methods are required. Check where a rack would stand with chairs in use and the balcony door open. If the balcony is your main leisure space, decide how often you are willing to share it with laundry.
For an indoor option, consider available space and ventilation with a suitable professional. Energy Saving Trust’s ventilation guidance identifies indoor clothes drying as an activity that adds moisture. Use that general point to ask practical questions about the apartment; its UK guidance does not establish the performance of a particular Hurghada home.
Give everyday equipment an easy landing place
Picture returning with shopping, a beach bag and damp towels. Identify a place near the entrance for bags and footwear, then a suitable route for items that need cleaning or drying. Keep frequently used things easy to reach. Storage that is inconvenient tends to become space you stop using.
If you expect visitors, include their luggage and the additional bedding in the same exercise. The apartment should still work when a spare room or sofa bed is occupied. Our guide to hosting guests adds a separate household planning perspective to this space check, particularly when family visits will overlap with your own longer stays.
Compare the finished routine, not empty rooms
Write down every storage or laundry addition you would need: a wardrobe, a rack, shelving, a basket cupboard or a different appliance. Ask for measurements and quotations where relevant before treating the proposed arrangement as settled. Confirm which additions are movable furnishings and which depend on installation or building approval.
Compare apartments using the same belongings list and the same imagined laundry day. A slightly different layout may give you a much easier routine even when the advertised areas are similar. Choose the home whose practical arrangements you can explain clearly, including where things go during the messy middle of an ordinary day.
